In advance of World Day of the Poor, students from St. Pius X Elementary School teamed up with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Vancouver to serve their less fortunate neighbours.

The children collected 400 cans of food, which were then distributed by volunteers at the society's thrift store at 2743 Main Street. The thrift store stocks emergency food bags as well as furniture, household goods, and clothing at low or no cost to anyone in need.

The third annual World Day of the Poor is Nov. 17 and was established by Pope Francis in 2017.

“The Society of St. Vincent de Paul hopes that as we reach this day, we can all come together and help alleviate the suffering of those around us,” the society said in a statement.
